III. Opponents and New Tools

The First Launch

In Place of an Afterword

After installing Q2PRO-X, you can begin with the same configuration and server you used before. New settings do not demand an immediate change to the way you play. Then, on a free evening, open a familiar map without an opponent and walk through it more slowly: watch rain drain from an upper platform, see the Moon reflected, or examine a passage under different light. Or open one of your demos and finally discover how an opponent managed to arrive first.

A match usually calls for readable models, distinct sound and a steady response. During a walk, there is room for a different sky, weather and wildlife. Bots offer more things to try: repeat a trick, practise defence or arrange an open duel. Work on them continues, including through recordings in which a human has found yet another way to outwit them.

Builds and guides are available at q2pro-x.com. A good place to begin is a level you know by heart: walk to a weapon, take a lift, check movement and fire a shot. Changes are easier to notice there. Then you can join a server. Once somebody is collecting armour behind the wall, there is no time left to browse the menus.
